Went fishing for coho, but all I saw moving through was Chinook.
I realized that I have no idea how you would target Chinook without roe. Are there particular colours of jigs or blades or flies that Chinook go for?
You don't need roe to target chinook salmon as they will take many well presented artificials. From my experience, in clear water nothing beats a tuff of peach or light orange yarn shaped as a single egg. In cloudy water, in the jig deparment, the halloween special marabou jig is hard to beat (orange and black). Don't forget chartreuse for low light conditions.
I'm still trying to figure out the flies, but you can't go wrong with a large closer minnow or tube fly in the colours mentioned above.
Chinook also like a nice Gibbs Kitamat blade, erratically retrieved. Good luck and enjoy having clean hands.
