Netting on the Fraser by the River boat Casino July 27th
« on: July 28, 2004, 10:54:01 AM »

Saw many comercial nets by my work yesterday. And if ya think Lickman road looks like a gong show... you otta go have a boo at this circus!

Saw 10-15 nets set up by the P-bridge then this Native boat lic# 30551 sets up a net from what looked to start 30-45 feet from the far side and all the way across the river to 30 feet of the New West side of the bank.

I know it reads as an exaggeration... the net really was that long. One of the lads said it had to be a "double set".

Tugs and barges were blowing horns and doing huge turns to avoid his nets... really laid on the horns as well.

Insanity
CJ.

me thinks if i was a barge operator, seeing as how it takes a barge like 4 football field lengths to slow to a stop, i would have kept on going, leaning on the horns.    oops sorry its illegal to block the channel...must yield to larger overtaking vessels......move it move it...no? ok.....bye bye net ;D

Boat operators are supposed to stay clear of anyone who is fishing. Laying nets though isn't really fishing though in the conventional sence.

That's amazing Casino, almost, like you said, hard to believe. Does'nt surprise me though. I've learned at this time of year, expect anything. Thank's for the report Jim.

i know that applies to us lowly boaters, but what about a huge commercial barge? not like a 1,000,000 tonne barge can just turn and slow down...... ???
