I never do this but what I saw today was outstanding.

It was early this morning on the canal (not @ KWB!) and about 10 of us were there. A tall fellow named Mark (late 20s) was having outstanding success with his technique and roe. In fact he passed his centrepin (islander) to a fellow who was not having success and promptly/unselfishly had him land a gorgeous red spring. He handed out some of his roe to the guys who were not having success (like me) and within 2 casts I landed a nice doe.

This is what makes a day really memorable. The fact we can help each other out and teach new things.

Mark (or if anyone knows him); can you forward this gratitude and the good vibes he exhibited....

Cheers

ps...he mentioned a roe cure he bought at freds...it has the words "WD" in it....anyone know the proper name of this product? Thanks...

I have been curing some roe lately. I've been using products from Pro-cure and Pautzke. None of them have anything like that in the names. Hmmmm. I'm having trouble believing he put WD-40 in the roe. most people would use krill or shrimp oil nowadays. now gotta go by Freds and ask.

this was great to read.  its disheartening to say the least when thread after thread is poacher or poor ethics related.

even better that it happened on the vedder.

Still good for coho and chum roe - spring roe needs something to firm it up.  Although the grit is murder on reels and really itchy on your hands.  I've been using Rod's "no longer sticky and tricky" recipe for 3 years and haven't gone back - with some procure added for spring and chum roe.

Lots of people and I nowadays like to use fire cure, fire brine, shrimp powder, salt, sugar, garlic powder ,borax and other additives and scent. Pick one or all and maybe you could match his cure

what a great story.

similar thing happend with me last year. I was catching chum after chum after chum almost every other cast. The fellow just below me was getting no action.

He asked me what I was using: It was just a standard purple egg sucking leach with some flash. I told him if he has anything purple  to tie that on and have fun. He had nothing in purple.

I gave him 2 of my egg sucking leaches and he tied them under his float rig. Two casts later he got into a fish and he was so appreciative. One of my favourite moments was to see him so stoked to finally get into a fish. it was awesome.
