OUTLOOK
We are almost at Christmas, but the good river fishing weather keeps coming! This does not mean “nice” weather. It means classic West Coast rain, timed right before the days you want to go fishing. For the last month it seems as though we have been getting a bump of water Thursday, Friday, Saturday and then good fishing levels Saturday, Sunday, Monday. It looks as though things might continue and it could be the best one yet…. at least on the river level front.
We are getting a big bump of water as we write this report. We expect this to color up the rivers and probably (If the weatherman isn’t lying) blow out rivers. But with relatively cool temps we expect them to come back into shape fast and that is the time you want to be heading out. We have details on the all the major systems in the report section below.
On the ocean salmon front we have some excellent holiday couch reading for all you saltwater anglers! It is a super cool article sent in by one of Jason’s close friends Scott Betts. Over the last 4 years Scott has gone all in on fishing plugs on our local waters and he is putting up results that are worth taking note of.
Plugs are an old school salmon lure but one that is gaining back popularity. In the article, Scott takes deep dive on special rigging techniques, pulling pins, and what colours and sizes work at what times around our local waters. If you are a saltwater angler, you will not want to miss it! And a big thanks to Scott for providing us with this! On the same line we just got a massive order of Tomic Plugs and we have some super cool new colours and sizes!
On the video front we released two videos this week our usual Friday Fishing Report Video where Matt goes over the report and highlights an epic new fly tying book from the Ospreys, chats about the storm and river levels as well as some tips on catch and release. Make sure to check that out if you don’t have time to read the entire report. Check it out here:
https://youtu.be/tXwWzZd1r3cThe second video this week was a rewind or re-release of one of our Bead Mending Videos but Matt had the opportunity to talk through the video explaining the mends in a way we haven’t been able to do before. We hope this will be a good refresher or learning video for anyone beading this winter. Also, if you are a trout fisherman in the summer and avoid the winter bead fishery, these mends still apply to actual nymphing and even dry fly fishing so it’s worth a watch. Check it out here -
