Fraser August 6
« on: August 06, 2004, 06:27:39 PM »

Leadbelly & I launched at Kilby @ 9:15 and proceeded to peg leg.  We anchored at proceeded to snag everything in sight (bottom).  At about 1:30 we move up river and anchored again.  Leadbelly is my hero as he netted my 30"longx 25"girth Spring ;D at 2:00.  No more fish today however.  There were VERY few sox in the river.
Here's a pic of the Spring.

Fished pegleg today and caught a red spring the same size as Grummans. Saw a few sockeye's caught with lovley net marks in them. 2-3 other springs were taken in the 2.5 hours I was there. Not many people and enjoyable fishing  :)

The rain probably had a great deal to do with keeping people off the river.

3oz. Dead Head ;D  Lost one betty to something that took off like a freight train.  Very strange.  Thought I had bottom and tried to dislodge when line "PEELED" and then stopped.  I told Leadbelly that "that was weird, must be a large stick or something".  Then line "PEELED" again and I yelled "pull the anchor!" and then...Doink... nothing.  Took me to the knot.  The swivel pulled open on the betty and my leader was "cut clean" near where the hook should have been.  Never saw anything.  I swear it must have been one of those 100lb. springs ;D  At least that's the story I'll tell the grand kids ;D

That was the strange part Chris.  The leader was cut clean as if I had used my clippers on it.  There was no evidence of streach.  Strange to say the least.
