Is Skagit River fishable?
« on: July 10, 2020, 10:59:41 AM »

Hi, everyone

thanks for showing your interest for this topic. I've been wanting to check out Skagit River for some fly fishing but I was told by a friend who camped near Silver Lake that the water is pretty high.

I've checked "Real-Time Hydrometric Data Map Search" for Skagit River but I don't know how to read the graph.
One thing I can be sure is that this year's Discharge is much higher (22.0-23.0 m3/s) compare to last year (8.5-8.65 m3/s).

Could anyone confirm whether the river is still fishable? if not, how much longer should I wait? when the discharge goes down to 10 m3/s?

Thanks!

Here is the link to the graph:

The river will very likely be fish able, if you can actually get near it. A good number of the access points require a wade almost immediately to properly fish. If you focused on the smaller upper end, then it might be more wade-able/ fish able.

Personally, I'll be waiting until at least the beginning of August. I like to be able to actually fish more than 1-2 runs in a row.

On July 4, someone on flybc posted this about the Skagit:

Took a trip out today just to have a look. I've never seen the river this high. Gonna take lots of time to come down. Theres no fishable runs anyways right now. Please be safe out there.

I fished it last week and found some fishable water way up near an access point. Only managed 3 hooked and 2 landed though

Pacific Angler reports on the condition of the river in their Friday fishing report:

Is the boat launch open?

Like I said, I haven’t been up there yet, so I don’t have first hand knowledge about the boat ramp.
Everything I’ve said on this thread so far I’ve learned from being a keyboard warrior.

This webpage doesn’t indicate that it’s closed http://bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/skagit/http://bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/skagit/

Keyboard warrior out.

I heard there was cement pillars in front of the Boat  launch on opening day. Hopefully that’s not the case anymore.

Thank you. Didn’t want to haul my boat up there and find the boat launch closed.
