Hi all

I was out kayaking today and noticed some fishermen on lower fraser. About 2-3 klicks west of the massey tunnel. I've noticed these fishermen before...would they be shore fishing for salmon or sturgeon? I didn't think any fish ran around there....

thanks for any tips

cheers

I've seen fishers near the Alex Fraser Bridge catching small fish that looks like white fish or shinners.

When I was a kid that was a go to spot for coho. Spent countless hours there with my father. Was a popular spot. I tried to get in there one day about 15 years ago and the guy at the gate told me that someone had crashed their dirt bike on the property and sued them. That was end of that.

I don't know about those anglers, but last year, mid-Sept, I came across a number of anglers at the easterly end of River Road, in Ladner, at Brunswick Point. That were all fishing with looong Tenkara type rods. I presumed they were fishing for peamouth chub.

Check out Rodney's article on Richmond if you haven't.  I have many fond memories fishing in Richmond for various species.

People do fish for coarse fish in the Fraser. Pea mouth chub etc seem perfectly good table fare to people who don't have the salmon and trout snobbery so common among long time BC residents. Rod was like that and may still be! I had a job for a couple of years in Marpole and used to spend some time in Fraser Park. There was often a guy or 2 with a long bamboo pole and a buckle of water with a few perch he'd caught. I see much the same thing at the Burnaby Foreshore Park at the foot of Byrne Road. I don't think we'll see any salmon fishing for some years. They are even closing trout and char angling during the IFS window.
