B.C. children's meal charity says inflation causing spike in demand

A B.C. charity that provides meals to children says the rising costs of goods and services in Canada has caused a sharp increase in demand for their services and a near-dire need for donations.

“What we’ve witnessed and experienced over the last sort of four to six weeks has been like nothing we’ve ever seen as an organization before. The phone doesn’t stop ringing with new communities, new schools and even individuals calling who are looking for help to feeding or feeding their kids,” she said.

31% of Canadians don't earn enough to pay their bills: Survey

A new survey suggests almost one-third of Canadians aren't pulling in enough income to cover basic monthly expenses.

Thirty-one per cent of respondents to an Ipsos survey conducted for MNP said they don't earn enough to pay their bills and debt payments, and almost half of all respondents (49 per cent) said they are within $200 of insolvency.

B.C. organization that provides food to kids in need sees registration spike amid high gas prices

The organization said the main reason more families registered is the impact rising gas prices are having on food costs. The strain of those costs is also being felt by the organization itself.

"In the last three months our bill's risen about $7,000 a month and we're anticipating about $4,000 a month more,

Just for math purposes lets say 1 year ago gas was 1 buck a litre, today its 2 bucks a litre. (close enough)
GST a year ago would have been 5 cents per litre, today GST 10 cents a litre.
100% increase for the same amount of product,  Makes no sense
Would be such an easy fix, make GST on fuel so much per litre, not a  % of the actual price.
Could do the same on all taxes for fuel.
Would help to solve rising prices of every product that is purchased, because everything we buy in transported using fuel of some sort.
I just solved the inflation problem in 2 minutes.
I work for a very large company that delivers propane, and they are raping people with price increases and making some of the highest margins they have ever made.
Statistics show half of people are almost broke but it does not show the other half of people are making more money now then ever before.
Look at used boats, I bought a brand new 19 foot custom weld in 2006 for 27000.  Today that same boat with 500 hours on it would sell for 50000.   Just seen one on FB, think it was a 2010, for 90000.  And some one will buy it.  Some people are making so much money right now, but that is not mentioned anywhere on the news.  Which is great for them but they are making it of the backs of the average person.

the standard international commodity price for a barrel of oil jumped from about $65 to $117, an 80% increase, from March 2021 to March 2022. I don't think adjusting the GST as you suggested would make a significant difference.

Unemployment in Canada has also hit near record lows, the lowest in close to 50 years. The country is for all practical purposes at full employment:

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/canada-s-jobless-rate-hits-record-low-stoking-rate-hike-odds-1.1749615

fra better to have a job in an inflationary economy than unemployed in a deflationary one.
