Fly or Spinning fishing near Victoria
« on: August 06, 2024, 07:50:13 AM »

Hi Folks.
I'm hoping to have just a day around Victoria at the end of August (on a family trip from North Wales UK).
I could bring a rod with me, small spinning or 5-6weight fly.
I don't want to be hassled with fetching my waders and boots.
Is there anywhere I can bank fish from for trout ( or whatever!)
Thanks

Hi Frank, I hope you and your family have a lovely trip to Canada.

Admittedly, I have never fished Victoria proper, but a couple of suggestions:

Saltwater: 1) the Ogden Point breakwater. Do a search on Youtube and you'll get lots of hits.
2) The Gorge Waterway can be good for sea run cutthroat trout, as can any number of ocean beaches in the Greater Victoria area.  The website SportfishingBC.com might be a good place for you to peruse as it has a very large user base from southern Vancouver Island and there are a number of threads about shore fishing, This is one, for example: https://sportfishingbc.com/threads/fly-fishing-victoria-westshore.75948/

Freshwater: there are a number of stocked lakes in the Victoria area but I'm not sure how they fish in late summer and which ones have access for fishing from shore...
