Effective Wednesday September 1 to December 31 in the Somass and Stamp Rivers
the daily limit is:
- two (2) chinook of which only one (1) may be greater than 77 cm and;
- two (2) coho, hatchery marked or unmarked;
- the aggregate daily limit is four (4).
In order to protect pre-spawning salmon in the Stamp and Somass Rivers angling
closures are needed in portions of the river. Angling closures will be
implemented September 1 to November 15, in the following portions of the Stamp
and Somass Rivers:
- from the tidal boundary at Papermill Dam on the Somass River to boundary
signs approximately 1.0 Km upstream (Falls Rd. Gravel Pit and the southernmost
end of Collins Farm/ArrowVale Campground-Hector Rd.) and;
- from boundary signs located approximately 500 meters downstream of Stamp
River Falls to boundary signs located approximately 200 m. upstream (above)
Stamp River Falls.
Angling closures will also be implemented September 1 to October 31, in the
following portion of the Stamp River:
-from boundary signs located at the confluence of Sumner Creek and the Stamp
River (approximately 1.5 km downstream of the Robertson Creek Hatchery) to
boundary signs located on the Stamp River at or near the outlet of Great
Central Lake.
Anglers shall also note:
-there is a bait ban in effect on the Somass and Stamp Rivers. Bait may ONLY
be used November 1 to April 30 downstream of the "Bucket" (approximately 250 m
above the Beaver Creek and Stamp River confluence)
-the use of single barbless hooks is mandatory in all streams within Region 1,
-all fish foul hooked (i.e. hooked other than in the mouth) must be returned to
the river immediately;
-any chinook salmon retained measuring in excess of 50 cm must be recorded on
the reverse side of your Non-Tidal Angling Licence;
-please note the above restrictions are in addition to any other closed area
already in place by regulation.
