I am a float fishing novice.  I tried it last year and had some success so now I am hooked - but I still need help.

When I fish a run/pool that is three - 5 foot deep it easy to adjust the float/weight to keep it 1 foot off of the bottom, but what trisk are used when the pool is 10 - 15' feet deep.  Is the float allowed to move up the line?  What do you place on the main line to keep the float off of the bottom?

Any help is appreciated.

You have two options if the water is deeper than the length of your rod. You can either bottom bounce (using SHORT leaders) or use a sliding float.

I often use drennans and at $7 a pop, I dont want to loose a single one.  To avoid that just  this summer, I have gone to using bobber stoppers....they are AWESOME.  I use one stopper above and 2 below the float...If I snap off above the swivel, then these little wonders keep my $7 float from going down river... and of coarse they are adjustable to allow easy casting into a very deep pool.

Cant remember the brand but they are green little stoppers sold a wire, attached to a yellow pull tab.  10 or 12 stoppers were $1.50...very good investment!

You can also use beads with a uni knot on your main line.

Fulcrum - would you seriously move on?  Is there a reason.  i was fishing the vedder the other day and hit a deep pool that looked great but I had trouble getting my bait down.

Thanks for all the help.  Maybe this year I will get a Coho (thank goodness for croc spoons) on a float.  Last year just Chum.

What sizes of lures do the coho hit? i got smallish ones, a 1/4 crocs

I was using 3/8 but there were guys using 1/4 oz that did very well.  i have some of those that I plan to try this year.  I think they will work well.
