Morgan Lake October 12th
« on: October 12, 2004, 01:03:33 AM »

Fished Morgan Lake for a few hours this afternoon - no action.  The water was very clear (20+ feet visibility).  There was some insect activity on the surface but no fish were rising.  We trolled leeches and Doc Spratleys around the whole lake with no results.  Egmontman said he had one bite but I got nothing.  We saw one guy fishing a bobber with a spinning setup ("artificial fly only" - yeah right) catch a small one just by where the creek comes into the lake at the north end.

Anybody ever had good results there this time of year?  I saw a post over on fishbc talking about mysterious fish kills there ... what's up with that?

TOUGH lake. I have seen adult mayflies in the spring but nada for me.

Supposed to be C/R isn't it?? I've seen a few mysterioulsy beheaded trout on the shore ( spontaneous trout decapitation??  ;D)  I'm sure these "kills" happen alot

Have you ever tried to get to the other one around the corner (Florence?) Every time I go I can't even seem to find a trailhead?

Nope, that was my first time up that road.  What a zoo of 4x4 guys at the top end of Stave Lake.  Looked like some kind of convention/gathering.

sharphooks has a map with GPS coordinates for Florence Lake.  It sounds like any other lake in the area might have been better (Florence, Sayres, Devil's, even Rolley).  Oh well.  I guess for us beginners we should have picked a stocked lake.

Rolly, even though crowded is fairly reliable. They put some brood stock in there so you could get into a decent fish. Completely inedible, and sadly missing their fins which get rubbed of over time.  :(If you're new, can be thrilling though!

If ya wanna cheat, you can go to the stocking reports that are posted.

Has anyone fished Sayres recently. I havent been since the spring. I remember 2 years ago I would go for a few hoursand catch 5-7 easily but now its not as easy it seems. Just curious if it has gotten any better. I always have luck at Devils Lake but they are only 12-14'' unlike Sayres where you can catch smoe pretty decent fish.
