Had fantastic day casting the old hammered croc and drifting yarn for chum and hopefully a coho. The former prevailed but I did hook some nice fresh ones. Lots of questionable techniques going on and I was just wishing that DFO would show up. Lo and behold, two fisheries officers walked in behind me and confiscated gear and escorted two young fellows off the beach up to the parking lot at the Hydro site. No licence for one and no salmon stamp for the other so I overheard.
Helicopter overheard early afternoon most likely doing chum counts and the Inch Creek hatchery did another seine pulling out wild female coho from the area around the boat ramp. Some red tomatoes came up in the net as well as a greyish spring.
I've only fished the Stave twice now and its a great river, going to look for some new spots soon and find a quieter area to fish other than the park area. Water was a touch higher than last week but clarity was excellent.
