Hi,

First, thanks to those who responded to my flyrod question....

I'm new to river fly fishing for salmon.  I have an mod/fast 8 wt. (Lamiglas G1000).

What type of flyline do you recommend? (sink tip, etc.)
What set up for leader do you recommend? (size, length, etc.)

Any info is appreciated.

i say go for airflo multi tip system....  its the same price range but it come with a 5 years crack free warrenty which is a very good thing.

I have the versi-tip, but recently, I've noticed that the clear-intermedate tip is starting to turn white, I'll be taking it to where I bought it from to see what to do with it.

Other than this, I've had no problems with it, decent price, and still a hell of a ot cheaper than buying all the equivalent lines.

Courtlnad 444 Multi tip got a very loop to loop connector, unless you got a fly rod with a oversize guides or else, it often caught between guides while landing fish.... By far, Rio and Airflo got the best loop to loop system....

Yeh had a little trouble with that but my guides are fairly big.

I like the airflow the best. stay away from the 444 because the loops are way to big for the average rod, and i think ur rod has the smaller guides but cant remember too well.

I'm not much of a fly guy, but I talked to a fella on the Squamish last Sat. and he showed me a spot several feet in on his Rio Versi-Tip running line that was peeling off the core. Told me that was the replacement line after it happened previously and he wasn't too happy. May he just ran into a bad batch?
By the way, he was running a large Fin-Nohr reel on a Sage. Soooo nice, and light.

I would not say a Fin-Nor and a sage is a light setup.  I myself got a same setup; Just the reel alone weighted over 9oz for a FR10 , even a smaller size- FR8 weighted 7.5oz. Plus your rod, most sage weighted between 3-4.5 oz, so you looking for 11-13 oz on your hand.. Thats almost a pound!!! Your arm would fell right off after a full day of casting.

Granted, I never casted the setup so you're probably right Steelhead King.
My reference was to the fact that it felt light in hand to me considering the size of the reel packed with line.
Like I said, I'm not much of a fly guy.

I would definitely go with one of the versa tip set-ups. I currently fish with a 10 foot 8 weight with a separate spool for each line, unless you are fishing the same piece of water all day you will spend a great deal of time standing on the beach, rethreading the new line thru the guides. I find myself looking for water that will work with the line I have on instead of looking for the best water. I will be switching to a versa tip system hopefully before the coming steelhead season.

I have the same problem as Dubya mentioned with my Rio Versi-tip.  I just took it in to have Rio honor the warranty.  They get a chance to prove that it is not a common thing.  I only used the line for a total of 20 days.  I cleaned it after use every time using Rio recomended products.
