Finally all the stars in the cosmo's have aligned and I was about to partake in a days fishing. No, monsoon rains, a very rare weekday off (I am a teacher), no jobs on the "to do" list, and positive reports from the river. I quickly packed the car and headed out. Picked up the Steelhead King in the dark and headed out to towards Chilliwack. As we drove east I could see that it was going to be a beautiful day, as the horizon showed a thin cloud cover that I was sure would burn off to produce a beautiful sunny day. We chatted about where we might start fishing and planned out our strategies. After about an hour on the road, we were crossing the highway bridge over the cannal and the Steelhead king says "hey, you know, I don't remember seeing your waders in the back"...a moment of panic rocks my body as I realise that they are still hanging up at home!!! RATS!! now what..Stupid, stupid, stupid. Don't worry, Marco reasures me...there are always places to fish even if you don't have your waders. With that in mind, we pulled up to where we had planned to park only to see CG's leaf mobile already parked and empty. A good sign, if he is here, so must the fish. As we get out and walk along the dike, I become very aware that the fleece pants I wear under my waders are NO protection against the very slight but cool wind. (GEEZ it actually felt like I was standing there with just my shorts on) I kept this to myself, as I did not want my stupidity to ruin my buddy's day, but I think he clued in and suggested we relocate to the upper end where the river is more protected from wind. Left Chris a shot note just to say Hi, I hope his day went well!! By the time we arrived at the upper end, the sun was up and the glorious day had started. The birds were very active as we fished a number of runs, saw very few other fishers, but no fish, or any sign of fish. As we bushwacked here and there I was always forced to find some fallen trees to cross the side channels created by the high waters. Amazingly I was able to find safe passage each time. My buddy kept offering to carry me over these shallow side channels but I just knew that would end up with both of us getting wet. Anyway it significantly reduced my time available to fish, and thus our effort to day was only half hearted. I was soo careful to stay dry and I almost made it untill I walked onto one of the "quicksand" patches...Geez I was up to my calves in a fraction of a second and wet!!! despite my efforts. Needless to say it was an early end to the day, headed home to meet up with Roy to pick up some new gear....new gear always makes me feel better...Tomorrow is another day, and this time I have a list of things I need to pack...
