Feb. 10th Vedder
« on: February 10, 2005, 11:25:39 AM »

My late night getting bugs, badminton, and guiding yesterday has caught up with me and I had to come off the river for a nap. Things seemed slow this morning , I was with Ken of STS guiding when he hooked and landed a hatchery buck he released and that is all I saw but I heard of a couple of others. Also heard of a couple of monsters caught yesterday or today but I was tired did not absorb the day they were caught or the actually weight but in the 18 to 19 pound range I was told.

The river was in perfect condition and maybe the bite will come on like yesterday in the afternoon so I will be there and hope CB CAN ALSO as it could be good. ;D ;D ;D

I hope others can get out and enjoy the fishing as life is way to short to be worrying about telling people that have to travel a long distance what the river condition and the fishing is. Of course we all know fishing can be good one day and poor the next. One area can be hot today, dead the next but 1 hour later excellent again. There is so many variables to fishing that what makes it such a great sport and past time.

If I and I think a lot of other may feel the same thing if all there was to worry about in life is if we report and share on how the fishing is etc. life would be a cake walk. It is such a pleasure to meet so many great people from this forum and other fishing sites each day on the river.

Yesterday while Gord was catching all those fish, I enjoyed watching the action, promoting CVRCC and talking about this forum to a number of anglers that stopped by. Friendship developed throught this site by sharing information will I hope long outlast the days when I have made my last cast.

Time for a nap and to dream about all the fish there is out there to catch in our beautiful province of British Columbia, how lucky we all are.

One last note Nick just call, nothing to the beach yet but he has missed two and it sounds like the fish caught yesterday was 19. 2  he tells me, nice fish. ;D

Nice sentiments. I couldnt imagine fishing without those aspects of it being intact.

19 lbs...what a tank!  :o

You are so right Chris and I think it's great that there many chances to meet other members each time out. I know evertime I've been
out this year I'm always looking for your red hat :D. People have been great each time out although I'm still waiting on that nice hatchery to say Hello. I hope more people can get out and enjoy it while this great weather lasts because as we all know, it won't last forever. Good Fishing All. :)

Well said Chris.

Sometimes we get too busy at work and forget to enjoy the finer things in life like a nice day on the water.  I guess thats what steelie fishing is all about, walking the river, enjoying the fresh air, meeting with and chatting up fellow anglers some of which may be total strangers but have a common interest.  I wish salmon fishing was this pleasant.  It didn't matter to me that I didn't touch a fish yesterday.  I just needed the peace and relaxation of being out on the river, something you really can't put a value on.  I'm not advocating skipping work every day to go fishing,  but when your throats feeling a little scratchy ;D ;D the river is just a phone call away!!

Thanks to those that posted after mine.

After a good nap back out on the river for the last couple of hours. A couple of things to report.

I do not think there was a fish caught in the run where all the action was yesterday, funny how things change from one day to the next. Ventured up to the run and the diving board fellow and his partner were there but saw nothing happening in the time I was there. I spotted on the other side of the river a float that looked like a Drennan so that made my mind up to drive around as the float was near my new hot spot. ;D ;D

Before going around top the other side of the river I tried the run by the Leaf Mobile. As I worked my way down the run, float down, looks like a fish, next drift down again, solid, solid allright, a snag.  :(

O for the life of my lucky Drennan as I apply tension to try and free her, snap, my greatest fear happened, TML Drennan floating downstream calling for help. ::) ;D

Well practiced by running down a thief lately and other floats from other anglers that have suffered the same misfortune I am off like a herd of startled cattle as I shed not one but two brood capture tubes from around my shoulders on the dead run. As I reach the end of the bar I have a bit of an angle on the lonesome looking TML Drennan. Just as the run starts to deepen I am with in reach and rescue it from a watery grave. ;D

I retie up the Drennan that looked very happy to be aboard once again and be able to catch some more steelhead in the days ahead. I then head to the other side of the river and find the float is still there, not a Drennan but a very nice 4 inch balsa that I will most likely never use like the hundreds of different shapes and sizes I have. ;D

I fish my favorite run that I did not this morning but came up empty. Around 4:45 just as I had to leave to get ready for A Fraser Valley Salmon Society meeting I see a fellow with a fish on above me. I continue fishing my run for about 10 minutes and he is still fighting it.

As I leave my fishing area and start towards the LM he still has it on. Even thought it might put me behind for the meeting I put my rod down and go to check this out, it appears to be a large fish. To late to tube if a wild but I never get tired of seeing the lovely fish a steelhead is.

The fellow is getting it to the beach when I arrive and we see it is wild. I ask him if he wishes a photo and he says "that would be great, I just got off work in Abbotsford so I thought I would pop out before heading home to White Rock"

I capture a shot or two as he beachs it and then a couple more of him holding it, a buck at least in the 18 to 19 pound range. I got the happy anglers e -mail and will send him the photo's and will post here later if he does not object.

It just proves you do not have to get out early and you never know when your float will go down with a monster like this on the end. ;D

This has me fired up for tomorrow as today was the first time in the last number of outing I did not even have my TML drennan go down, no the snag that tried to steal my Drennan does not count. ;D ;D

One heck of a lifeguard!  ;D

Oh and not surprised no fish caught there either. I think it was a school on the move that day. Active and aggressive!! Luckey to be there at the right time.

They are probably hiding out someplace else nice and peaceful while everybody flogs that one section where they were.

Well Chris, I guess I better get down there soon or the fish will be all gone!  Was down for basketball this weekend, might have been better off going fishing!  Are there many being caught or is it just getting started?

If you hang out with Nick and Chris, it would appear that they are throwing themselves on the banks :D  For the rest of the mere mortals out there - it _IS_ Steelhead we're talking about  ::)

The run seems to be very good this year, by my reports a number of fish taken today as well including Nick was out for a short time and took a hatchery, 2:40 Gordie was also out for a very short trip and reported losing a good one and missed another. As well Chad was finished quickly with a nice hatchery before 8:30.

Got my bugs tonight so some good action ahead this week, I hope. ;D
