Rice lake question
« on: April 07, 2005, 09:40:09 AM »

While fishing off the dock at Rice lake yesterday a fellow fisherman pointed out a camera that is high in a tree directly across from the dock area facing the dock.  I didnt believe him at first, but after a closer look sure enough big camera looking straight at me, he said that they watch it in the office by the parking lot.  Just curious why on earth would we need a camera watching rice lake, felt like an invasion of privacy, thought that would be the last place someone could be watching me on camera. Also wonder how much it would cost the government to put up a camera like that in the woods.  Anyone know anything about this?

GVRD has the camera installed for several reasons:

1) Watch for illegal activities - ie. poaching, fights, littering, etc.
2) Watch for vandalism.
3) The gate closes at sunset so they want to make sure everyone is off the dock before they do so.

I assure you that the camera is only up there to catch and film skinny dippers  :o. If there is no sign posted to notify the public of this camera it certainly is an invaision of your privacy.

Maybe the fish put it there to see if the food around the dock is attached to a fisherman. ::)
