Iv heard of a lot of steelhead being caught from the Thompson River. Is it a good river from steelheading? comparable to the vedder?

Hey Athezone, I don't feel like your raining on my parade. I'm not sure if you were saying that I was being a river know it all, or CF was. But there sure aren't lots of 20lbers, thats a stretch. If there's lots of them in the Cap... then there are millions of them in the Vedder.  Know what I mean?

The Thompson isnt for die hards...my first trip I hooked 3, my buddy hooked 2 or 3.  second trip (a day trip) I hook 2, my buddy one.

Yes its a big river, but the fish are very aggressive and easy to find.  Only 1 or 2 of my fish came on the drift (bait), at the others were taken in Kitamats (#65s), and you certainly can cover a ton of ground on those big suckers!

One other note you have to be aware of BigFisher is that it is a CnR river only and you need a classified waters tag to fish it.

Hi there BP, no I was'nt saying or inferring you were a river know it all, at all but you are certainly correct in your observation of the number of big (20LB.) steelhead in the Cap. The largest I have ever caught in that river was 15LB's, about, and have caught many around 10 or twelve. Not to say that 20LBer's are'nt there because there certainly could be an extra large fish in any system and that is the case for the Cap. I hope that people reading this won't think that catching a steeley at the Cap is as easy as 1, 2, 3, because many a time I spent 8 wet hours fishing, knowing that if I did get a bite it would be a one shot deal. The Cap get's a modest return each year and yuh hafta work
ta get em. Good Fishing All. :D
