Yes I use a heavy bar rod for my sturgeon fishing and it works fine!

So this means that I can use my 12ft bar rod for sturgies? It has a some what sensitave tip and has a Penn 320GT on it

With Nicks fish he was using a combo I picked uip for him from Army & Navy for chums...20lb test so we had to chase the fish just shy of 2 miles and it took close to 2 hrs (if I remeber right!) before we even saw it! Then to the beach a couple of quick shots and away it went!

That's to bad your using that set up that's along time to be stressing out the poor sturgie . It's a good idea to use the proper gear so that kind of thing dose't happen. You should be prepared for the big daddy as they are out there.
