Eagle lake May 15
« on: May 16, 2005, 07:26:20 AM »

Hi all, heres a new one for me.  Wading and pike on the fly on the wrong side of the rockies...  All I can say about that is thank god for the waders to keep the prairie water off my delicate skin  :o

Got two of these little guys on some 8 inch leech patterns I made out of bunny fur (sorry peta).  Notice the steel leaders... These things have BIG teeth!

Cheers,

Jon

Nice pic, its too bad we dont have more pike angling opportunities in BC, they are such a fun fish to catch...and they taste better than white spring to boot!

Nice fish Jon, but what's with the yellow shirt? ;) Did you see any bigger fish on the surface?

When I was piking in Denmark, the fella who I fished with was using a wire leader 3 times longer than the one you were using, probably because they had some pikes up to 30lb in that system. :o

That lake has them up to 10kg according to my sources, but I have not seen any much bigger than the one I caught...  I think they are nice looking fish, and its the closest I will get to fishing a salt flat for some time  ;)  I don't think a longer leader is needed for fly fishing, cause they don't get much chance to get the hook way inside, and they hit hard...

Another hour south and they get much bigger and more plentiful...
