Silver bullets on the bow
« on: May 22, 2005, 07:11:41 PM »

Hello fishers, your old friend Mr. 5 checking in with a fishing report.  So I was going to go on a drift down the bow river here (In calgary) but we had one guy cancel so with just me and Mark from Reel fly fishing http://reelflyfishing.com/guide/ went out for some early morning wading fishing.  Anyways, the fishing was so good that we ended up fishing the whole day.  Heres a picture of one of the big fish I got.  There was another one the same length (23.5 inches) making those two the biggest trout I have caught this year so far.

PS. no comments on the mustach  ::)

That's a nice fish ! Great to be able to get them stream fishing like that. Have a young friend in Calgary who gets out on the Bow. Don't see any other fishers in your picture. How many other fishers would you have seen on your day's outing? Is it as crowded as some of our west coast streams? I know the Bow is well known for its great fly fishing !

Well, some of the locals complain that it is crowded when there are a few people fishing the same hole.  But its nothing like the coastal streams/rivers.  I think its pretty civil here for fishing (possibly because its catch and release, and no bait). The only thing I have heard that compares to some combat fishing is fishing in april at the mouth of certain tributaries for staging rainbow, but I have never seen it my self.

If you find your self in calgary with some spare time drop me a note and we can try for some of these rainbows.

Cheers,
Jon

If that's crowded, I would like to invite them to the Vedder this fall. :)

Nice one Jon, any idea why the fish is skinny? Post-spawn?
