Wow! What a day. Started in the upper river with Rob, I saw Biffchan there with his brother and Stave Dave was there also, and Cam with his dog Colman. It was slow there today and I lost one early on. We decided to go find the fish and went downsteam a bit. We tried another favourite spot and Rob hooked into a chrome 15lb buck that took off down stream. Rob was stuck on a cliff so I ran ahead and doubled back to a spot where he threw me his rod -with the fish still pulling!! The fish stayed hooked and I held the fish on till Rob got around to me again. After a tense battle he landed the fish. Nothing else bit at that spot so we walked downstream a little. We came to a cliff looking over a pool and there exactly below us were two springs and two sockeye. We couldn't believe our luck! Rob, being the good sport let me have a shot at these fish on my own as he just relaxed. Well I made sure everything was just right because we might just have one or two casts at these fish before spooking them. New roe, checked my depth, leader- ok everything looked perfect... go to cast and ##**!! The calcutta reel just wouldn't turn!! Unreal, I've had that reel for a while and take good care of it but it has siezed up. CRAP! Not now I thought!! Rob was just feeling bad for me. Anyway I told Rob to cast his center pin for me as I don't use one, the fish took his 2nd drift in one big gulp and Rob gave me the rod and 5 min later we had our second fish. Another chrome 15lber and a doe too. I watched Rob catch one more that I tailed and released for him and we noticed there were about 6 springs in that hole. Just a total bummer that my reel packed it in with fresh fish sitting in front of us. All fish were bright so a new group has moved in. We later went to the on the way store to get some batteries for my camera and took pictures there. This is my last spring trip as I'm going to europe for 3 weeks. Good luck gang and go get em. BP
