NFR: Anyone here a musician or have a band?
« on: August 12, 2005, 11:09:41 AM »

Any musicians here?  ??? I'd like to hear from you! ;)

I've been playing a guitar for nearly 11 months now. I'm not great, but it far outshines my singing. ;D ::) :'( ;D If you want to hear a few of my songs, follow the link

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pageartist.cfm?bandID=387850

You need to register to listen, but it's free. I'd also like to hear other local bands around here.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy it. ;D ;D ;D ;D

By the way, the band name is Inner Light.

High Leaping,
I play the gutbucket (washtub bass).  I was in your area a couple of months this summer, but now I'm in Oregon.  I'm hoping for another trip north before heading to Mexico about December 1.  I would be glad to jam with you, or just accompany you on some of your songs, if we could set it up.  Did you know that there is a bluegrass jam every monday evening starting I believe at 6:30pm at Trout Lake all summer. They jam indoors during the winter.  I jammed with them once this summer and it was nice.  And there were players there from all levels.  I left at 11pm because I was afraid they were going to lock my car in, but there were still a few people playing when I left.

Thanks, that sounds cool :D Just wondering   if you're playing any gigs dwn in Oregon? I'll be in the Portland area for the most of next week. Have you recorded anything of yourself? I would be interested in hearing it. If you've got time please try my recordings.

Thanks :D :)

I play with a group of old farts, The M.O.B. (=magnificent old bastards).  We played a barbeque and a birthday party last weekend.  We play at a local bar from time to time on Sunday afternoons.  Usually, one way or another we play on Sundays, but we aren't doing anything this weekend.  One of the guys in the group writes, and we are just now talking about recording some of his songs.  I'm about an hour from Portland, and if you'd like to come by for a visit, we could put you up.  I'll give your songs a listen soon as I post this.  K

Sorry, Leaping, I was trying to make one of your songs play and I got a phone call from one of the MOB and we are jamming as for a couple of hours as soon as I can get to his house.  I'll get back to you later.  (I read the lyrics, though, to Dust in the Wind.  Looks good--you know I suppose there is another song out there by that name?)

Yes, there's a song by Kansas called Dust In The Wind. Not the same song. I never even knew of it until I heard it, which was a good deal after I wrote mine.

OK, I just gave 'em a listen.  Sounds to me like you are ready to do "open mic" spots, coffee houses maybe, with as a solo act.  On the other hand, I suppose you are aware of the classified section in, I believe, the Georgia Staight (maybe it was one of those other free tabloids in Van).  In the music (or musician?) section there were a lot of listings.  There is probably a kindred spirit or two in there.  If you are going to be near McMinnville (between Portland and the coast), you might get in touch and maybe we can work it out where you sit in with us MOBs on a Sunday.

Thanks so much! I very much appreciate it :D :D :D :D

Just out of curiosity, any of the songs you preferred over others?

I think I most enjoyed the "hard rocker", I think it was third on the list.

You want some general feedback?  It's hard to do.  I listened on my itty bitty computer speakers, and I read the lyrics.  It's especially hard to judge lyrics, but I thought every time you used an image or metaphor it was stronger than when you just described the situation.  It seemed to me the lyrics probably came first, the tunes later, and so sometimes that shows a little.  It's all better than anything I've done.
