Sturgeon
« on: September 15, 2005, 08:49:24 PM »

Well after school today i headed to the shop to hang out since i had no way of getting home. Grabbed quiznos on the way there. IN the shop i sat and eat while trying to decide wat to do. Boss says "Sturgeons hot! i wanna get out." So with in an hour we had the boat and were launching. Saw tonnes of pinks but didn't bother for them, we had enough bait. Head up to the spot, tie one to a boom. Tide was coming in so we were fishing facing up river. within 5minutes we hook and land a 3.5fter. Can't show you the picture because it would give away our spot. Another 5 minutes and we get another fish, 2.5ft, released at the boat. Both these fish were caught by the boss. next fish was mine. And what do yah now after about 15minutes couple bumps on my rod. pick it up. tug..........tug....tug..tugtugtug.SET!!! FISHON!!! and its a big daddy, screems out some line and now its coming up. Jumps right clean out of the water then back up to shake its head at us. After a good long battle we finally land it at shore. with a made scramble to get waders on and get the microchips, scanner, and tape measure. Jump in snap a few pics, scan it...."virgin fish" so i get to inject the chip and record all the measurements, 184.5cm long, 74.5cm around.

Me struggling to lift him:

Good Picture:

After all that we get back out to our spot. DOUBLE HEADER!!! withing 5minutes we are both into fish. and trying to keep them apart. I quickly land mine, 2ft, and the boss lands his a few minutes later, 4ft. we scan him and hes a virgin fish too. After that i hooked another fish about 4.5ft that came clean out of the water, but lost him near the boat. Other than that it really slowed down. So we headed back. found a place the pinks were rising so we chucked spoons for 20minutes, no luck. Had to hurry back to the shop to close so the whole ordeal was done by 7. pretty good for getting out after school if you ask me.   ;D

Nice sturgeon, what kind of bait were you using?  I have found that this time of year, salmon chunks are worknig very good!!!  Sure would love to have a boat though, I have to hook and fight these monsters from shore!!!!!

Ya roe bags will work well as well, for me though I've hooked many more on salmon chunks, preferably whites!!!  they seem to create more of a scent. Must be all the oil!!!!!Awsome job though, I love seeing big fish even if it isn't me catchin them. ;) ;) ;)
