Pt. Grey Bell/Spanish Banks Sat. Afternoon Sept. 17
« on: September 17, 2005, 08:48:42 PM »

hi everyone.

Fished the Pt. Grey Bell from 330 to 710 pm.

When we first got there it was us, and John B. a local charter boat who trolled off deep into English Bay not to be seen again today.

The weather was wonderful, warm, sunny, FLAT calm water, on a flooding tide. What a treat! Having the Pt. Grey Bell Buoy area all to ourselves! We figured, how could we go wrong? We'll get a crack at a couple of springs, no boats to dodge.

In my usual fashion, I rigged up 6 flashers and 6 anchovies, and for most of the trip that is what I used--except for near the end when the tide slowed down, I faced hootchies and spoons on one rigger VS anchovies on the other just for fun to see if one would work better than the other. NOPE.

Soon, HIGH FIVE shows up and make a couple of passes and then trolls off into the distance of Stanley Park.

Meanwhile, we hang in there, working the area thoroughly, trolling with and against the tide, in close on the drop offs, out far in the channel, working the tide lines, and working the gear from all depths from 100 ft to 25 feet, and..NADA.

We did hook a 5 lb Jack Spring which we didn't even bother to measure and let him go.

As the only boat fishing the Pt. Grey Area, we fished the area thoroughly, and correctly, and if there were opportunity to be had, it was going to happen, but it didn't.

Aside from the weather, the trip was a stinker.

If there were fish there, they weren't biting, and maybe the full moon had something to do with it.

In any event, to have the Pt. Grey area all to ourselves was a rarity for this time of year.

We should have gone to the T10, we couldn't have done any worse.

Better luck tomorrow!
