Vedder gong show and peace!!! 24th.
« on: September 24, 2005, 07:53:50 PM »

Went to the Vedder this morning at around nine near the rail way bridge didnt wana fish with the crowed today so i took a hike down stream found a good what i thought was a virgin run hooked into three fish scrapy suckers all off before i could even see what it was. Then it slowed down bad a few guys came who also knew the spot didnt get a sniff so i went back up to the "PINK POOL" as i like to call it by the railway bridge. Hooked in a hand full of males with a jig and got bored of pinks so decided to go canal for a spring or chum anything but a pink. The place was so packed people were catching fish at one spot only and as time went by and people left i got closer and closer to the pool where everyone was SNAGGIN! springs it was discusting. I kept my depth short to avoid this and didnt get a bite but all around me every cast people would snagg a spring it was sad to see so i left. One good thign was a counter from dfo i guess came up to me and asked me the how long , what for , how did you fish today very nice lady and a guy i was glad to tell them everything. I hope they saw the people who snagg and keep every spring they hook even double dipping or triple its such a shame. On another note there were a few people who werent helping the situation by cutting peoples lines who  bottom bounced and shouthing at each other saying they were gona break some guys rod and throw him in the river i mean come on thats not proper river etiquette. I just hope that we get some freaking rain so all those poor springs and chum can move out of the canal stop being snagged.

You need to read my posts more carefully floater. ;)

For example... In "As we approach a different season..."

Quote from: me
The Chilliwack Vedder River is long. Some say it gets crowded, but only at certain spots. To have a good experience, it's best to avoid the busy spots. The busy spots are usually the visible ones that have easy access. These include Keith Wilson Bridge, railway bridge, Lickman Road, Peach Road, Vedder Crossing, Tamahi, Alison Pool, Limit Hole. By going to a spot where less people are fishing, the likelihood of you hooking into some nice fish is bigger since the fish are not spooked. Surprisingly, you can usually find a nice quiet spot by taking a very short walk from one of these busy spots.

Well I was on the  Vedder river scouting and watched my friend John land a hatchery coho of about 15lbs. He already had two jacks as well.  Then he hooked another coho while I was talking to him.  It was a chrome wild buck that was released.  Cool thing is he got all the fish on his flyrod.  When I left him he was still catching fish. Good job John.  I'll be out on Monday.

Floater, I can't understand why you would fish there if you thought it was so disgusting.  Heres a tip for you, most of those fish have been stacked in there for quite a while.  They have been bombarded for days by hundreds of people.  I doubt very much that they are in the biting mood, especially after first light.  Try and find some water that gets less pressure.  There are good holding spots throughout even with this low water.  Your chances will be greatly improved even if you are fishing an area with less fish.  After my fishing day is over, I usually drive to the KWB Bridge and walk onto the middle to look down (out of curiosity)  You can see all the fish stacked up and most are avoiding all the hooks and line that people throw at them.  Im not implying that all the fish hooked there are flossed but you will have a better chance at biting fish elsewhere.

What's wrong with bottom bouncing? If you know how to do it correctly, you wont snag in a lot of fish, i really dont understand why everybody hates it...

The complaints start when people use loooooooooong leaders to floss the fish.

no need to bottom bounce on the vedder ;) . just use a short leader with some peach wool or roe. trust me...you'll be rewarded with a nice fish depending on where your fishing  ;) ;)

Doug i forgot to mention i also went there to see what all the talk was about since i never been and i also said i wanted something other than a pink but when i got there, and was there for no more then one and a half hour i couldent stand to wach the good name of sports fishing being dragged in the mud. Bottom bouncing the fraser is one thing but pure snagging every fish on the stomach back is just pure sick. I hope some of the double dippers on springs got a fine or something by the dfo counter lady.

yah i saw keith wilson today for the first time. :-X :-[  i dont know how many times today i cut my leader at the knot to the swivel because it was too long. lol, ask troutslayer. i was using 8-14 inch leaders and hooked more fish than the experienced vedder fisherman Troutslayer is. Lost a 30 whitey, not that i had a huge chance of landing him with my 8-15lb TrophyXL centrepin rod.lol

Yeah, I probably wont be bottom bouncing the vedder anymore... but it's okay to try once in a while, I have no idea how people snag so many fish, I see people use floats, and when their float reaches at the end of the current, or it cant go farther downstream, they just yank it to snag something, which I find annoying and lame

you can bottom bounce , but people bottom bouncing such slow waters below keith wilson??? The weight is not going to bounce it's gonna stick to the bottom. That water isn't even really that great for float fishing. Good water for spoons, spinners and flies though.

there are places downstream with a larger current, and the weight I used was very tiny, because I didn't have to cast far to get to the fish :P
