Cap OCT3.
« on: October 03, 2005, 03:47:39 PM »

Took a little luch break and went to the cap expecting to see some fish on the move. Upper river levels looked great, so I made my way down to house rock to have a look. Water was perfect. nice tea color, good flow. Watched for about 15 mins and didn't see a single fish.

I talked to a guy who had been there for 2 hours and he said he hadn't seen a fin either? He went on to say that in the lower river, the natives were slaying them on Saturday. He expected that there would be fish in the upper river today, but to no avail. Some guys across river hadn't had any luck either.Where the heck are the cap coho? Are they stuck in the canyon?  ???Has anyone tried lower river today? There wasn't even any springs?

I couldn't stay long, I had to get back to work, but I did cast for about 30 min with no success. This river can be so frustating! I seem to always be a day late every year. Maybe it's just the fisherman stories of " WOW, you should have been here yesterday!" that's really starting to get old.

Just returned from an afternoon on the Cap. Frustrating to see the snaggers out. Here's a tip: If your float keeps going down at the same spot for 10 consecutive casts or so it's probably a snag and not a fish. Don't bother reefing back on your rod. ???

Another few tips: don't cast out of sequence if you're fishing in a picket line. The guy downstream should cast first, then the next guy up etc. There is no need for a guy downstream to be casting upstream past 3 fishermen. It serves no purpose but to p#$%^ off the other guys. Even if you get a bite it would extremely difficult to set the hook given all the slack line out. If you want that spot that bad, move !!!

So were you successful fish my friend., or is your bad mood due to lack of success? I suspect this is lower river, because there isn't anybody fishing the upper river.

Snaggers will always be there, they are like the poor. When thay catch fish, they will become less enchanted with snagging. I remember when all I wanted to do was to bring home something to justify my time on the river, but that gets old as your fishing gets more selective. I share your frustration, but what to do? But I digress. How did you make out?

Checked Cap this morning. At 10 am all I saw at Cable pool was one fisherman leaving (no fish) and two new just arrive. Saw just one splash in the pool, unusual for this time and water level #3. Very few fish in hatchery pathway.Talked to lady at hatchery office, she told me that first day they open the damp (last Thursday I guess) it was quite a lot of fish, but that dropped dramatically since than. Looks like all fish that were gathering at the mouse waiting for high water moved in one day ???

Stopped at lower river as well, just under highway bridge. It was about dozen of people fishing there. I was told that some people were lucky earlier in the morning to catch a fish.

Also checked mouse of the river. Water was too hight for first nation's damps, but they weren't snagging them before railway bridge as they usually do when fish moving in.

Just hoping that more coho will come.
