SHORT FLOATING PRO-CURED PINK ROE ON THE STAVE AGAIN!! oct 23th
« on: October 23, 2005, 07:23:50 PM »

Well this time I took StinkyTroutBoy out to the stave to battle some chum and hopefully some springs or coho. Well got to the river around 3 and first cast was into a big boot chum. StinkyTroutBOY was tossing spoons and was getting the odd chum. At around 4 o clock i hear troutboy yell FISH ON! He was fighting something chrome!. It turned out to be a nice female chum which we realesed. Later on at about 5 my float takes a fast dip and quickly set the hook. It jumps and jumps and jumps and to my suprise it was a beaty jack spring. It weighed in at a wopping 4.2 lbs! That was my first jack at the stave this year. Once I re-baited my hook with a nice chunk of roe i tossed it out and then again it took another quick dive. Hook set....and FISH ON! Its chrome..hmmmm possibly a coho. I battle it out and to my suprise again it is an extremly clean chum doe. The cleanest chum I have ever caugt by far. This one had basicly no bars on it. I ended up bonking that one. All in All a great day on the water.

Congratulations TroutBoy!  The best part about salmon is that they keep growing for years after you catch them!!!  good work!

i woudn't waste good roe on chum. they are easily caught with wool eggs and spinners. save the roe when the chum have thinned out by mid november and use it for the large coho that will move in. the stave has a run of coho that are quite "impressive" around that time. the only problem is that the cutty's and pikeminnow also move in as well.

Roe is not a problem, i have tonnes.  Although i am mostly catching chums, coho is what i really want to catch.  I figure i have a better chance of hooking a coho or jack if i am using roe rather then wool.  I know wool can be pretty effective for chum.

you have tonnes? in that case keep using it. my friend hooked a jack spring on a spinner yesterday just where the trailer park begins around 5:00 pm. close to shore too. are you fishing near the dam?

Please excuse stinkytroutboy....most of his posts are false. He caught his first ever salmon on the 23rd and he foul hooked many fish casting spoons. It is very rare you will snag fish fshort floating roe.
