Sockeye are the most amazing of all the pacific salmon they are the most determined species. They do travel the futhest and end up almost at the exact location of birth. How they do this is a mystery but at the same time sockeye have been proven to return to their birth place within a 3 meter radius. I learnt this in my fisheries course. ;)

That's very interesting about the socks. They are amazing fish. I never knew about their homing instincts. I always thought the Fraser chinooks travelled the furthest, as  I've seen them at Rearguard falls near Mount Robson. If you follow the Fraser on a map you'll see that'a a swim and a half. Maybe the socks make it up there too but I've never been there at the right time of the year.

I'd have to look it up but the Chinnok returning to the Teslin river in the Yukon travel in the neighborhood of 2300 miles.
