Vedder April 9th
« on: April 10, 2006, 11:35:26 AM »

Woke up Sunday morning and headed off to take care of some accounting business.... headed over to Lil Steels place at around 11 am and picked him up.... as we headed out to Chilliwack I talked to Normfish, Merc and Norm 2 on the phone and we all agreed to meet on the lower river to have our very own Fish in....  got to the river around 12 and started flogging the run with Roe.. there were a few fish being hooked here and there but not very much action.. it seems that the fish have spread throughout the river and are not stacking up in the meat holes any longer... below us there was a hatchery bonked on the other side of the river .. and there was a wild hooked and released and another lost... we also talked to one guy who had apparently hooked into 3 fish right before we got there.. amazing how he didn't hook anything for the 5 hours we were there hmmmm  ::) ::)

I continued to fish the run with everything in my vest...  I had a few nibbles on my roe which I believe were just small trout of maybe a whitefish...  and I had one nice take down which resulted in me setting my hook  ( so I thought  ::) ) a couple of nice headshakes followed by a slack line  :( ???  wasn't to be my day...  Lil Steel didn't get into anything.. which wasn't surprising because him and big Norm seemed more interested in yapping and sitting on the tailgate of the trucks than fishing....  we saw a few anglers.. nothing like before the end of March!!!!  all in all probably ten fish were brought to the beach and all of them save one were wild!!! some of them were some good looking fish.. lots of energy...was a great day .. had a lot of fun as usual... Merc Lil steel and lil Norm and big Norm all got to meet for the first time... Lil Steel and Normfish were fascinated with wrestling each other and picking each other up for some reason  ::) ??? ;D :-\ :-X :-\ :'(   it was actually quite disturbing.. and come to think of it they did spend alot of time alone  :o :o but thats another story... and their business  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh yeah almost forgot to mention the annoying kid on the motorbike!!!!  My god he drove me nuts.. alomg with everyone else on the river.. he had the noisiest peice of crap bike I have ever seen.. back and forth and back and forth and back and forth revving this crappy lil bike... I had dreams of breaking that lil bike so it would never annoy another person  ;D ;D ;D ;D

and of course there were the usual rippers... setting the hook on every drift.. I asked one guy what he was using that made him so successful that he got a bite on everysingle drift  ;D ;D

it amazes me sometimes that people don't understand the proper way to fish with a float..

Good to hear that the crowds have thinned out. Perhaps it's time to make my first trip to the Vedder this season

I think I saw you guys...well the ones that were wrestling anyways and that stupid bike at the canal around 330pm. I had the the black lab that was pocessed with his stick.
We fished on the way, train bridge and finished at the canal with nothing to show. Oh well great day to be out, but am definately looking forward to salmon season so I can finally catch something.

Cheers.

Yeah, it was a fun day!!  But you will notice that the one that was wrestling the most didn't say anything about him wrestling!!  SkinnyRicky was the real instigator!!  Maybe he didn't say anything bescause I was a bit quicker than him and took him down!!! :o ;D  Hope that you had a nice trip Rick!! :o :P ;D
I did have one on for a couple of headshakes though, but after nothing through the same drift 6-7 more times I kinda lost interest!! ;)  Was just fun to be out and not have to bundled all up in a ton of winter cloths!! ;)  Now, Bring on Sturgeon and the next Salmon season!! ;D

I was trying to be nice to you by not embarrassing you and telling all the good folks on Fishing with Rod how weak you were... how easy it was to put you on the seat of your pants.. but now everyone knows how I owned you!!!  see what happens when I try and be nice  ;D ;D ;D

Thickrick I was having some fish taking off my bait yesterday and today and I though they were most likely smolts starting theri migration out of the river to the ocean. I could not even notice the Maple Leaf drennan move.

yep you are right about that I am sure...  I was feeling alot of tap tap tap but no float action except for the one takedown that I missed  :'(
I just got some new jigs I ordered from the states.. I am eager to try them out so that means maybe Friday will be another Vedder day!!!!
