Electric motors
« on: April 20, 2006, 07:11:31 AM »

Was looking to get one and have talked to others about the use of them in salt water but no one can answer it. Can you use any electric motor in the salt chuck or are there specail ones for that. Also if you do use a normal one i heared you can just rinse it off and it wont be affected????????? any info would be great thanks

I believe Mincotta just came out with a saltwater electric, not sure the difference except that the parts are resistant to salt, the head of the motor where the armature is must also be sealed tighter than the freshwater models.
Just a rinse wont get inside the head where saltwater spray and air would get in.
Just a thought

Use it in any water you want but if it shows saltwater damage then your warranty is void.

Most people never have any probs and if you want to be 100% sure then throw down large for a saltwater model.

Three year warranty at best, on both salt and fresh water. Mine is 8 years old freshwater and I use it in saltchuck at times.
