Little Help needed
« on: August 07, 2006, 05:10:51 PM »

Guys,

I'm up in visiting relatives here in the Surrey area and was hoping to get up on the Fraser this week. I was hoping you guys could lend a hand on a few questions.

1. What kind of rigs are you using for the sockeyes? I know in Alaska it was simple split shot and fly, but the Fraser seems much bigger and I'm thinking more weight will be needed.

2. Are you guys using those bouncing rolly looking weights? If so, how much line between it and the hook is best?

3. Where would be the best place to pick these weights up? Any size you recommend?

Thanks

Chad

We are, well most of us anyways are using a bouncing betty, 2-3 oz at this time should work fine.  Use a three way swivel, weigth on one end, line on the other and leader in the middle.  Most use aout 10-15 foot leader.  You will see some people use more leader (20-25'0, but this is a waste.  You can use a corkie or wool or both on the hook.  You can find these bouncing Betties (weights) at any tackle shop.  You say you are in Surrey.  Then I would suggest  Gone Fishin' on 104 ave.  It is a block off King George in a smaller strip mall!!  Hope this helps, and tight lines. :)

Which, while not exactly helping the original poster, does give a great overview of bouncing for sox here on the Fraser :D
