its not the keeping of these fish they worry about, its when you wanna get rid of them.

#1-you may not put it back where it came from.

#2-you may introduce a new disease created in your home aquarium.

#3-its a native wild animal

I realize that thousands of turtles, gold fish, and other foriegn species end up places they shouldnt.  Bottom line is that if you domesticate a wild animal like that, its yours til it dies.

I think if people realize they can't take a fish and move it from lake to lake, then they must know they can't move it from a lake to an aquarium and back.

Laws are for the lowest common denomiator which is why I selectively follow the speed limit etc...like I said earlier, its all about managing risk and realizing potential concequences.   Me keeping a pumpkimseed for a while and burying it of even flushing it when it dies...that has no real consequence which is why I would selectively abbide by this law.

Well if i only move one bass from one body of water to another techniqually it can't do any harm because there needs to be atleast two to reproduce.

Fish can also carry disease and parasites so moving them fro one lake to another could introduce a new disease etc. so even a single fish going from one natural environment   to another may have severe consequences to the ecosystem.

Gooey,

It doesn't look like you're going to win this one. I'm not going to argue about "bending" laws, I'm only going to ask you not to do it. Go buy some cool fish from a pet store for your kids, they'll enjoy them just as much as any wild fish you might acquire illegally.

A river is never quite silent; it can never, of its very nature, be quite still; it is never quite the same from one day to the next. It has its own life and its own beauty, and the creatures it nourishes are alive and beautiful also. Perhaps fishing is only an excuse to be near rivers. - Haig-Brown
