I keep fishing untill everyone that is around me has there limit.  So long as SOMEONE around me is willing to take the rod and have a fish (so it's not wasted) I have no problem continuing.  Once everyone around has 2, I pack it in and call it a day.

Cammer is upset because he is quite involved in the behind-the-scene work of sportfishing. He maybe overreacting a bit, since BigFisher is only a kid, but his concerns are very valid.

Some of the comments in BigFisher's post reflect the concerns that I had in a lengthy post I did awhile ago. Again, not to single you out or anything, but when the message is posted and hundreds of people read it, the wrong ideas will be brewed.

The warm water issue, many have stressed on numerous occasion that this fishery is not a catch and release fishery. The sockeye salmon that you release will most likely die before they reach the spawning ground. Although there are no regulations that prohibit you from fishing after you kill your two fish, but it maybe your interest to stop catching and releasing them after reaching your daily quota. After all, you do want to see the remaining fish reach the spawning ground, so in four years from now you'll be catching just as many right? If that is your best interest, let's try to achieve that.

This year has been a super good year for sockeye, they should raise the limit, there is just to many! What you guys think about that?

This type of thinking motivates me to one day advocate for a total closure. It gives me a sense that people are taking the abundant return for granted. Take a look at some of the historical fisheries that don't exist anymore. "There are just too many fish." is always the famous last sentence.

Basically, the key word that I am trying to suggest is...

If others can’t hook a sockeye for themselves then they don’t deserve one. Welfare should not be part of freshwater fishing.

Good points Rod. I do not agree with raising the limit either. I would love to see fish in the future. As for keeping on fishing after your limit well  as long as there are people willing to take the rod then ok but to keep on fishing in hopes of a spring I do not agree with. A couple of years ago when I did not know any better I used to keep fishing but after educating myself on this forum from the different posts from you guys I did change my ways. Now I get my limit and if there is no springs before I get my two then oh well maybe next time. I just hope that other people will do the same after they have read what some of you have posted about the survival rates from catch and release.

I agree with everything Rodney says, but after hearing over 17 million sockeye returning, and the fishing just getting better every day why should anyone have to go home empty handed? though I hooked into 40 sockeye, 20 were for a short moment, and of the other 20 the rod was handed over to the guy with 5 kids beside me. His kids were inexperenced and broke off anyways, so i spent a bunch of time retying for them, once they had there limit they left.The reason I had stayed and hooked even more after my quota was because my buddy who I was fishing with had not yet retained his 2 sockeye, It was his first time and he wanted to catch his fish himself, which took along time. Also handed off a bunch more and seemed like everyone was leaving early with a limit, and happy.

Noticed people returning to fish again from earlier after there quota, and groups of people sharing one rod to fish.

Unfortunately, the sockeye fishery is one that i will not be sad to  see go away for another year. It seems that "harvest fishing" to some people means that the rules get thrown out the door, and all that matters is that I get my two fish.  An estimated return of seventeen million fish, perhaps, but as sports fisherman - as Rodney has pointed out - we have to exercise moderation.  If we don't, we have no one to blame but ourselves if future fishing opportunities for Sockeye becomes extremely limited.

they should make  handing the rod off illegal how long will it be before this happens on the vedder during coho season how many of us would accept that???

now i see why so many people get upset with the whole flossing thing. Some of the things said are just emberessing. There is to many fish we should raise the limit? that is a sad thing to say. Greed is all that is,think of the future There is no such thing as to many fish...... most fisheries are going seriously downhill.

 They’re supposed to be disappointed if they don‘t catch fish and need to ask themselves why they didn’t get a fish that day and learn from that.  Accumulated failures and mistakes lead to experience. You don’t reward failure or expect a reward when you fail.  Where is the lesson in that? It would have been better if you stopped fishing and showed the man with the kids what you used and let him catch his own fish. At least there is some accomplishment in that.

Grey area.  (Guide boats anyone?)   It DOES happen on the Vedder.  All you have to do is open your eyes.
