Hi Guys,
I am part of a 24 strong group travelling from Ireland to fish your wonderful rivers.
We arrive in Chilliwack on the 16th for 6 days fishing. Has anybody been out fishing lately is the fishing good?
Could somebody also recommend a good restaurant and some friendly bars.

You should have a good time. The fishing should be pretty good, especially with the forecasted rain this weekend. If you choose to fish the Chilliwack River, it maybe a good idea to split into several smaller groups. You may also want to book gruided group trips on the Fraser, as the fishing for chum, coho, sturgeon should be very good. Book now if you are interested, as spaces are very limited. If you are fishing the local river (Vedder/Chilliwack) get ready for some company cause it's busy as!

It's a different style of angling out here (I come from the UK), you'll have people fishing 10ft or less away from you on the popular spots, it feels odd at first but watch how everyone rotates their casting so everyone can get a  run through and you'll figure out when it is your turn/time. If you are out for the Salmon and not been here before I'd advise staying off the Vedder (it'll do your head in!) and try the other rivers - best to ask in the tackle shop, but I'd think the Stave, Chehalis, Harrision will al be full of fish - but ask local knowledge is best!

Take guided trip on a boat for what ever species and you'll have a great time....

Hopefully you are going out on the Fraser for Sturgeon, in which case you'll have a blast!!!!!!!!

At this time of year good luck in finding a river that is not crowded especially with the predicted rain this weekend.

Just don't go on about Catholics or Protestants, we got enough problems. And what kind of fishing are you doing in Bars and Restaurants? This isn't another potato famine is it? Don't forget some lakes like Jones that can be pretty hot for trout, and a good bet.

Hi Irishfisherman, welcome to the forum 

6 days seem like quite a short time to fish and get to know a new river, so hiring a guide for a day or two is probably not a bad idea. That way you will get the most out of your trip

Alll the bars in Chilliwack are friendly to such a large group.   Try to get guides it's fairly short notice but you should be able to find someone to help you get away from the crowds.

Are you all staying in hotels?  I'll be in the campsite.  If you feel like sharing a pint we'll be there.  Just look for the 2 guys in front of the BBQ holding cold ones.

For a group your size I would reccomend hitting the Harrison or Fraser Rivers both are large rivers with lots of areas to walk and find some room. Both rivers hold fish as I write this and will hold even more when you are here. What type of gear are you using (fly or bait etc..).

Unless we get lots of rain i would avoid the smaller rivers at all cost!

As others have said hire a guide for a day and learn the tricks, then you can do-it-yourself for the rest of the trip.

As for restaurants and bars:

Bars: Jolly Miller is close to the river and has a working  person type clientel
        Major Leauges (the one by the softball fields) is also good but has a few less shady characters

Restaurants: Chillies has great Thai food.
                  Greek Isles is also good.
