Chilliwack Lake sockeye typically enter the Vedder in July - early August and spawn in early September in both the lake and the Upper Chilliwack River (Dolly Varden Creek) in Washington state.
Cultus Lake sockeye enter the Vedder in late July (our first this year at the fence on Sweltzer Creek was July 31) and continue until December or early January.  These fish historically spawned at Lindell Beach but now we find them in the Spring Bay area.  To date app. 3600 have arrived at our counting fence.

Dave is the research technician of Cultus Lake Salmon Research Laboratory. :)

On a related note, they're having a open house and public forum tomorrow on Cultus Lake sockeyes.

I got two sockeye today as well on flies... I never thought they'd hit silver! Well there you go :)

Both had adipose fins, and were quite small, 5 pounds.

Cheers,
Nicole
