I have been fishing for 6 months and haven't caught a trout. I see people pulling out trout 1 after the other. Even after I talk to the fisherman and are shown how to fish for trout I have no luck. I have 6 lb main line and 3 lb leader. I use floating power bait this time of the year, orange and yellow egg. Hook is almost hidden so fish can't see it. I have the power bait floating 2 feet from the bottom. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  I  searchied the whole forum for any tips that migh help me and had no luck so i'm posting this.

 Trout fishing this time of year can be a little tricky, because of the colder water the fish are less active and feed less, often times the bites are very small and hardly noticable. Powerbait is a good all around bait for trout but it doesnt hurt to try different things, little pieces of cooked or raw shrimp always work well, and alot of times I will dig up small earthworms out of the garden they are also a good bait. Also try changing your depths from time to time, last time out I was fishing between 2 to 5 inches off bottom.

Piranha, there is a variety of methods that you can catch trout, so sometimes it is recommended to try out a few until you find one that you are comfortable with. Although the rainbow trout that you find in most Lower Mainland lakes are raised at a hatchery and stocked, they do get used to their new habitat and swim around, so not as easy to catch as experienced anglers claim. Most who produce consistently usually have been fishing for them many times. Once you start connecting with some fish during an outing, future ones will seem much easier.

Personally, I dislike using a sliding weight bottom rig to and letting it either free sinking or sitting stationarily on the bottom. This method does produce fish, but I find it tiring and boring at times to either hold the rod or stare at the rod tip for bites. It almost never fails if you cast and retrieve a small spinner, eventually you would find the right retrieving speed and hook up some fish. Float fishing can also be good, which allows you to set the rod down, sit back and watch the float. Just be prepared to strike when that float dips below the surface. Powerbait is usually ready for fishing, but don't disregard other bait such as shrimp, roe sacs and dew worms. Fishing with a fly with either a fly rod or just a spinning rod can sometimes outfish any other methods. I find a small dark coloured leech/wooly bugger (size 10 and smaller) usually does the trick.

Other than that, go with someone who has had success previously. A group fishing trip with people like FishFreak would boost your success tremendously.
