Having the afternoon off a fishing trip was in order, got to the lower river around noon and started to fish. Upon arriving at my third spot I notice some fishy looking water 100 metres downstream, as I'm walking down river I do a drift, and wouldn't you know it as I'm looking at my feet the rod starts to shake, when I look up the float is gone so I give a delayed hookset. Right away a big chrome bar breaks through the surface and with a splash of his tail its released and back on its way. That got my heart going, so after cursing myself a bit for loosing my first steelhead of the year I wonder if he has a friend? so about the tenth cast into the general area float down again, this time Ive been watching it like a hawk so I get a good hook set. After a brief tussle a few jumps and runs I land my first steelhead of the year a wild fish around 8-9lbs. Tried a few others spots with no further success so decided to call it a day, weather was great and the river was in fine shape.
