Hatheume Lake Sat. June 9th
« on: June 10, 2007, 07:28:25 PM »

We spent the weekend up in Westbank and decided to go to Hatheume on Saturday. Got to the lake and met Carlo (Chrome Mykiss). He was tying up some chroni's for his outing. As I was pumping up my boat, I realized I had left my booties for my fins at home :( >:(. This would make my outing a little more difficult but whatever. So we talk to a few people, saying fishing was slow and then I head out. Carlo then meets me out on the water and tells me what types of chroni's work there. I;m not much of a chronomid fisherman, well never really done it much, but I set-up and start fishing. I was fishing for about an hour and a half with nothing. As I;m doing the usual, sitting, waiting, giving the line twitches. Then suddenly I look and my indicator shoots under the water, the line tightens and I set the hook. Fish on! The fish immediately starts taking line and I eventually catch up with it and reel it in. I see it boil at the top and realize I;ve hooked a very large fish. The fish then shoots down deep, pulling line. I then start to reel it up again. I get it close to the top and can't believe how big it is. It suddenly darts down again and snap :'(. I bring my line up and it snapped my 5lb. test leader right in the middle. I was pretty PO'ed because I didn't see many fish hooked. People saying only a single bite in 4 hrs so I thought I wouldn't catch anything else. I had to take a washroom break, so on the way to shore I decided to troll a wooly bugger. Within 2 minutes of trolling I felt a a fish on the end so I set the hook and I was into a small one. Landed it and decided to keep it.

Here's some pictures of the fish, and some moose that we saw on the way out.

Tight Loops,
Coho Cody ;)

Cody,
I'm glad my advice helped you a bit, too bad about the big one getting away  :P Guess I forgot to meantion there's some good size fish in that lake  ;D  I found the fishing spotty, hot and cold like the weather we experienced. The fish I pumped showed very little if anything, so they weren't that active. I did managed to find some nice size fish though. Here's a couple of pics  ;)

I second that... but not only does the guy dream of chironomids, he eats them for breakfast at the lake!!!   :o :o

No wonder he does so well.

They are all excellent pictures but if I have to choose one, I go with the top one.
