Crabby June 2
« on: June 02, 2007, 05:10:17 PM »

After reading about those crabs, decided to head out and track down some keepers. With the low tide at 2 feet it looked good for crabbing. There were lots out there and managed to easily get some that were close to 7 inchs. Tossed a few smaller ones away as well that were legal but not big enough claw wise. Very tasty.

Nice catch!  How and where do you go for crabs with a low tide of 2 feet?

I would recommend a crab trap a boat or any wharf that goes out into the ocean as a more productive way of catching crab. I just like wading sometimes for them, and wear waders because the water is still cold right now. Wearing the waders out there makes it dangerous, which I like, but again don't recommend. The crabs run out with the tide. So you don't have lots of time to catch them like with a trap. When the tide starts coming in the water can get really murky and hard to see crabs, same with windy days. But really you can go to any beach follow the tide out (the lower the tide the better) and catch crab. Just some beachs are muddier and hard to walk on without sinking up to your knees. Which is why another reason I recommend traping. Hope that helps and good luck this is the best time to get them.
