Bar Fishing Set Up - Advice Appreciated
« on: July 09, 2007, 09:25:34 AM »

Hi,

I have the next two weeks off work and would like to spend some days bar fishing on the Fraser.  Unfortunately, I don't think the wife will allow me to fork out the cash for a nice bar set up.  Could someone let me know if the following rod and reel would be sufficient?

Rod - 10' Redingtion RSX 1002
Reel - Okuma Stinson Gear Ratio 4.5:1 with 50lb braided line

Also, any suggestions on where to buy or how to make a rod holder?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Emac

I woulodn't hesitate to use that set-up on either lower or upper, just keep an eye on the reel, and one of the biggest mistakes I see guys do is keep them selves plabnted in one spot while fighting a bigger fish. If you have rrom below you, running down the shore to get parallel then turning the fish in makes for a much quicker fight. Maybe keep that in mind when picking your spot ;)

For the rod holder and help you with the set-up, go see Gary at Chilliwack Dart&Tackle on Young Road. His Dad, Fred, makes the rod holders and all the staff are excellent for tips.
Good luck.

I've heard someone say they use a different setup for the upper or lower Fraser.  Anyone have any details on the difference?

Thanks
