The report is a little late...but oh well.
It was an early morning for me, I had to get up at 5 am in order to be on the lake by 8. The reason for getting up so early was the hour and a half ATV trip up the mountain we would need to take (which I was very excited about). We (my uncle, cousin, and I) ended up leaving at around 5:45. The drive to the lake was very nice and also very difficult at some points. We saw a buck, two doe, and a family of baby grouse, always a nice sight to see
. We arrived at the lake at 7:25 after a very difficult trail entrance to the lake. The lake was beautiful with fish constantly rising. We then set up our tubes and rods. Finally, we were on the lake, at this time it was around 8. We all went our separate ways. Ten minutes on the lake and I had the first fish of the day
. It was a beautiful 14" bow which fought amazingly. Fifteen minutes later of trolling a leech I have on the second fish of the day, just a little guy around 11". The fishing was slow for the next hour and a bit with only an average size fish on briefly. My uncle decided that we were going to go to shore at 11 for lunch, so with roughly an hour till lunch I decided to cast in to the small bay where I caught the small guy. My first cast into the bay I get a bite, but I was unable to set the hook. My second cast and I have a very large fish on. Within seconds of it being on it goes for a hard run and snaps my 5 pound tippet like nothing
. At this point I was frustrated but at least I knew there are big fish in this lake and in this bay particularly
. I continued to cast into the bay without success, so I decided to troll the lake again which was also unsuccessful. My uncle calls me to shore for lunch, so I give one more cast into the bay...instantly I have a large fish on!
It takes several huge runs but eventually it tiers itself out and I land it... a fat 18 inch bow! With a sense of accomplishment I go have lunch.
Around half an hour later we are all on the lake again. I start off trolling again, but there were no takers so I decided to switch to a chironomid since my uncle seemed to be getting a few on them. Within five minutes of switching I had a fish on but I lost it a couple minutes into the fight. I continued to fish for an hour more without any luck, unlike my 13 year old cousin who hooked and landed three and managed to catch the largest fish of the day at 20 inches
. We all fished for about half an hour more before leaving at 1ish.
I have to say this has been one of my best still water fishing experiences because of the good fishing, almost untouched lake, and fun ride there
