Gardom Lake - Aug 27
« on: August 28, 2007, 10:52:00 AM »

Well, after reading about what has happened to this lake, I decided to give it a go regardless.  A friend of mine is staying out there during the IPE for the week up from Vancouver.

So off we go in the lund with electric.  Two boats and one tuber on the lake, were on the water by 5 pm.

Fished around the first lisland at the launch and were in to fish immediately.  We were going after whatever would bite, but were fishing in admittedly bassy waters with big ugly lures.

We never really did manage to have enough time to target some trout....

After a half dozen small smallies, we decide to head for a bay on the opposite side that looked fishy to try to escape the cookie cutters that we were catching.  The area has quicker access to deep water and seemed promissing.  We pull up in 30ft of water casting to an area that goes from 30ft to 15 quickly.  I thought this HAS to work.

First cast, STRIKE (on a purple worm, texas rigged), missed it.  Again, FISH ON, bloody hell another little guy.  As the sun starts to poke through the clouds the light penetrated the water and we see dozens and dozens of small perch.  Great.

So a few dozen small smallies later it is getting dark so we head back to the launch.

Dissapointing to say the least.

Millfoil has pretty much choked the entire lake to death.  Stunted fish everywhere.  I'm sure there are some decent smallies in there, but none for us.  Working every technique and lure immaginable.

Nice work to whoever ruined a great brookie and rainbow fishery for this.

Damn sorry to hear about that millfoil ruining another one of our waterways. Good report nonetheless.

Yeah, all of the nice gravelly and rocky shoals are just COVERED in the crap.

There are a lot of pics from just a few years ago of 4lb rainbows and a lot of 2-5lb brookies.

Ruined by idiiots with buckets of perch and smallies.

I like bass as much as the next guy, but this is UNACCEPTABLE.

No wonder there is a 20K reward out there for the capture of those douchebags.
