Tall Story?? Truck Fishing??
« on: August 23, 2007, 11:57:30 AM »

I had the occasion to be in a seedy bar on the fraser and while playing pool and talking about fishing with some "locals" I was told a story about how they fish for sturgeon by throwing a thin cable with a dead chicken on a big hook into the river and attaching the other end to their truck hitch. They sit there and drink beer until they get a bite and then apparently pull in a sturgeon with their truck.

I didn't ask if they released it after or not. I thought it was a fairly tall tail and they were just winding me up but one of my buddies says he's heard of it before too.

Now I'm curious. Anyone ever hear of this???

Cheers,

I couldn't pick them out of a lineup but yes, I believe their necks were indeed red.

Anyone have any pics of this activity? my brother doesn't believe me.

I remember seeing pictures of people using a winch to get the large Stugeon out of the water, not for fishing. I heard of it but think it's more urban legend than truth. But give anybody enough beer and a pickup with a winch, they might even try flossing a Sockeye. :-\
