Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has owned or used a Legend boat before? I saw them last year at the boat show and they seemed like a half decent boat but the price seemed too good. The price still seems very good for a welded aluminum boat. I was looking at this model: http://www.legendboats.com/legend_full_windshield_boats/18_xtreme/18_xtreme_specs_features.htm with a 90 horse motor.

Does anyone have any feedback on these boats?

How is the quality?

Can it be used out on the ocean in rough water? 4 foot chop?

If anyone has any info on them it would be appreciated!

The reason the price is so good is they come somewhat under powered, so you have to upgrade the motor. They still are a good value, and as for the handling in waves it just depends on which one you get. I've seen the 19 and 20ft handle some of Harrisons finest waves and seemed to do just fine.

The hull thickness and beam width is also significantly less than that of Weldcraft, duckworth, fishrite, and many other traditional welded boats.  Should still be a fine lake and deep river boat.

looked into one a few years ago. asking price was $6999 and when it was all said and done it was $10,000. thats with the motor up grade and rigging, pdi on the trailer plus freight. lots of hidden costs. try and pick up a used one.

You would be much better off buying my boat that is allready rigged and has enough horsepower.

Very happy with mine . 19 1/2 ft x calibur 115 4 stroke fuel efficient 40 mph. Great in all waters . My 2 cents. Had mine since 2003 brand new.

Looks like a good boat firstlight but I am not intending to buy this right away. I am planning to purchase something around April / May.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I am looking into Harbercraft now but it looks like they are quite a bit pricier than the Legend. Going with the Legend I would be looking at about a price of $26,000 with the motor upgraded to the 90 HP Merc 4 Stroke including the freight. I think with Harbercraft it would be closer to $35,000.

If anyone else has any feedback it would be appreciated!

I also have a legend, 18' xcal. Love the boat and can handle big waves pretty darn good. Went offshore from tofino in it. Get the 115 for sure, and make sure u get the galvanized trailer not the painted one!!

Gotta say, I love my Weldcraft.  I saw a 2004 18' Renegade with an outback bracket and a kodiak jet pump, 8 hp yamaha top, side and back curtains and trailer.  the boat had less than 20 hours on it and was always garaged.  Man had health issues and an angry wife and was giving it away for $20,000.  Never run in saltwater.  Look at craigs list in the seattle area.  Seriously, this is a sweet deal, Weldcraft's are made by Duckworth and are a really sweet boat.

How does a legend compare with a smokercraft?

I think most smokercraft boats are riveted.  Not sure about Legend.  I'd take the welded over rivets any day.  I know that Lund compares their rivets to 747's, but last time I checked air planes aren't supposed to float.

Legend is welded alum.

My last 3 boats have been rivetted boats and not one of them leaked.
They are lighter than welded and as long as your not using it to log salvage or? there is nothing wrong with a rivetted boat.
Sure Legends are welded but how thick is the aluminum on them?
Welds can crack so not exactly bulletproof.

If i was going to use it strictly in the Salt i wouldnt go with a rivetted boat but i wanted a boat that i could tow and handle easily.
Comparing Harbercraft to Legend is like comparing Mercedes and VW.

Which one is the mercedes? Lund I assume would be the top brand... Don't see many Legends for sale
