Tidal Fraser River October 9th, 2007
« on: October 09, 2007, 10:25:20 PM »

Hatchery coho salmon fishing opened on last Saturday in the tidal portion of the Fraser River. Opening day yielded no catches in the rain, but the fishing has picked up since. Yesterday we were able to intercept some coho salmon, which were all wild. Today I managed to hook three fish, landed an incredibly chrome jack chinook, a bull trout and possibly lost a coho salmon. Best time has been the two hour period before peak tide. Water clarity is not optimal due to the rain we have been getting, but it is definitely fishable with artificials, which I have been using. Barfishing with roe has also produced.

Did you fish at your old spot?  Any sign of chum passing through?

Even though the chum salmon catches are way up in the Albion test fishery since a week ago, I have not seen many chum salmon going through at all. Today was probably the most I've seen to date, with three surface rollers in 4 hours. During previous seasons, there should be hundreds of them rolling through where I fish this time of the year. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, since I don't have to worry about by-catching a chum salmon while coho salmon fishing on light spinning gear.
