Stamp/WCVI

Hit the stamp at Moneys and gun club yesterday. Water is clear but very high. Some old boots around but i didnt see any cohos?
Did i miss them? Few fishermen but lotsa bears.

West coast near tofino much of the same, great cuttie action but no hint of coho anywhere.

Can anyone add to this report?

coho came in pretty early like mid sept all 40,000 all 100,000 springs came in and 11,000 made it up river :-\

ya i figured!

Well after lots of bushwacking i finally found some coho near ucluelet today. Got one on the first cast then that was it, they turned off. I hate salmon fishing. there's no rhyme or reason to their behaviour.

Actually its easy. They come up the rivers to spawn pretty simple if you ask me....

really?
it's not easy when run after run is decimated on vancouver island and you are looking for 500 fish that travel thru 20 miles of river, sometimes barely stopping.

I hit the tail end of the coho on the stamp fishing from the gun club. That was around the last week in september. The local creeks here around ukee and tofino are tought to access but when you hit the right water conditions they can be golden. Dropping water after a heavy rain ussually 2-3 days after seems to be the best for me. Wait to long and the fish get spooky.

I've searched almost every creek/river from Tofino Ck to the Toquart and only one held any salmon in any decent numbers. Despite being perfect conditions on the tofino from top to bottom all we found was 10-12 spawning chums. Water is so clear you can easily scan the whole river. Disconcerting i would say, not to mention the destruction of Kootowis Creek.
