Summer Positions for The Nature Trust
« on: March 06, 2008, 02:29:24 PM »

The Nature Trust is staging seven conservation crews around the province to carry out site inventory activities, control invasive weeds, install and repair fencing, and install informational kiosks and signs. Crews will be co-sponsored by the BC Ministry of Environment’s Conservation Corps Program, HSBC Bank Canada, BC Hydro and the BC Conservation Foundation as well as other funding partners. Work sites within each region will be on Nature Trust owned conservation lands, BC Provincial Parks, Ecological Reserves and other protected areas.

We are looking for young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who have an interest in conservation or resource management. All work will be in the field under supervision of an experienced Chargehand as well as professional staff from The Nature Trust and the BC Ministry of Environment. We provide a variety of training and resource related work experiences throughout the summer season to our crews.

Students with a First Nations background or who may have limitations to employment are actively encouraged to apply for these positions. Most crews will operate from April 25 until August 29. Crews in the South Okanagan, Vancouver Island, and the Kootenays will likely extend work operations into the fall season.

People interested in Chargehand positions should have demonstrated experience in managing crews in a field setting, have current First Aid certificates and be familiar with land management type activities. These positions will pay $17-18 per hour for a 40-hour work week.

Crew member positions will pay $13 per hour for a 37.5-hour work week.

The Nature Trust is dedicated to providing a positive work environment that is safe and respectful of both our employees and BC’s outstanding ecological lands. Join us in helping to protect conservation lands here in British Columbia.

Interested people can get further information from Jim Hope, The Nature Trust’s BC Land Manager at jhope@naturetrust.bc.ca.
