Ok for the last several years I have been using a Coleman propane stove on those fishing/camping outings.  Problem is, now I have a bunch of empty canisters.  Is there a way to recycle these?...Seems terribly wasteful to chuck them out...but I gotta get rid of them somehow. 

Anybody know what the environmentally responsible thing to do is in this case?

The recyling hot line should tell you, i know that wastetec takes them

Buy a 20lb. or less container like for a BBQ and the adapter so you don't buy the small ones anymore.

There was just a big, big write up about this in the Georgia Straight (or North Shore Outlook, or one of the other 2nd tier papers). I can't find the article though.

The general message I got from the article was not a lot of places take them and most people just throw them out. But even that is an issue because they could still have propane in them. So you have to, at minimum, punch a hole in the canister before you throw them out. Call Happy Stan's as posted above, or try calling MEC, I think they use to take them but I don't think they do anymore.

The end solution is of course, as already said, buy a refillable canister.
