Chilliwack River March 24th, 2008: Finally out there
« on: March 24, 2008, 10:58:03 PM »

Well after about 10 weeks of not fishing I finally got out on the river and tried fishing jigs for the first time.  I'd like to think that if there were any fish where I was that the jigs would have worked for me.

Got to the lower river about 9:30 and saw a fellow loading a nice 8 - 9 lb hatchery into his car.  He said that he got it first cast at that run.  We fished several places from where the Chilliwack joins the Vedder all the way up to the run behind the prison.  Seems everyone we talked to in the afternoon had heard about the 1 hatch, and 1 wild that had been caught.  It was great just being out there.  Water level was a little low.  Water was clear up hign, and again down below the train bridge but mid-river had some nice colour to it.  I guess the clay was settling out fairly quickly due to the lower water.   Only one week left on the Lic. so will try again next weekend - good luck to anyone lucky enough to fish this week!

I got out onto the upper river yesterday at about 1:30pm. Hiked up to a bend and worked some logs in the river. About an hour in had nothing. Moved to the tail out fishing the far shallows. Switched up my roe for a pink rubber worm. After about 4 casts my hook was just hammered. Brought in the fish, it was a nice 9 pound hatchery buck. My second of the year and first hatchery fish. Only heard of two other fish being caught all day.
